Press Release Summary: Tuesday, 29 April 2008 - Clare County Fire and Rescue Service
today unveiled the latest addition to its fleet as it took delivery of a replacement
Class B Fire Appliance at Shannon Fire Station.

Press Release Body: Built by Sidhean Teo from Spiddal in County Galway, the new
EUR290k vehicle represents a significant boost to the capabilities of the fire and
emergency services in Shannon and surrounding areas.

The vehicle - registration number 08 CE 999 - will carry a crew of 6 and will be
permanently based at Shannon Fire Station along with an Emergency Tender and Aerial
Platform, a second Class B Fire Appliance and 4 Wheel Drive.

The appliance contains a 3000 Litre per minute main pump, a tank containing 1800
litres of water and a full range of fire-fighting equipment, including a portable
pump, generator and crash rescue equipment. It is built on a Volvo FL L Chassis that
has been supplied by McCarthy Commercials of Watergrasshill in County Cork.

Mayor of Clare Councillor Patricia McCarthy said, "By continuing its programme of
fleet replacement Clare County Council recognises the importance of a modern and
well equipped Fire Service, as well as the need to ensure that Firefighters are
capable of dealing with emergency situations."

According to Adrian Kelly, Chief Fire Officer, Clare County Fire and Rescue Service,
"The provision of this new vehicle marks the first in a series of positive
developments for Clare County Fire and Rescue Service this year."

He continued, "Most significantly, improvement works costing an estimated EUR1.4m
are planned for Shannon Fire Station over the next 12 months. The procurement
process is currently being concluded and it is expected that the works will commence
in the near future."

Mr. Kelly added that the Clare County Fire and Rescue Service fleet would be further
expanded over the coming months.

"The Service has ordered one new 4 Wheel Drive Van, a Demonstrator Aerial Appliance
for Kilrush and four 2nd Hand Class B Fire Appliances (2 x 2003 & 2 x 2001). One of
the 2003 registered appliances will also be based at Shannon Fire Station over the
coming weeks", he concluded

Clare County Fire and Rescue Service is currently made up of 12 Senior Fire
Officers, 1 Wholetime Station Officer in Ennis and 77 Retained Firefighters in seven
stations throughout Clare.

The Service fleet consists of 24 vehicles including twelve Class B Fire Appliances,
three Water Tankers, two Emergency Tenders, two Aerial Rescue Vehicles and five
4-Wheel Drives. The Service also possesses two Spare Class B appliances and one
Maintenance Van.

The Clare County Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters is located at Central Fire
Station, New Road, Ennis, County Clare.
